Constructing your defense...
Your first task will be to gather the evidence you will need to successfully defend your villain. In order to do this, you will need to visit the resources page on this WebQuest and use your textbook. Assign each group member to gather a particular aspect of your evidence for your defense:
Your next task is to draft an opening statement defending your villain. This statement should at least 2 pages, double-spaced, and include all of the evidence you have gathered. Visit http://www.perno.com/law/docs/Opening%20Statement.htm for suggestions on how to construct your statement.
Your final task will be to compile your evidence and opening statement into a case file on your client. You will submit this file via email to the "judge" (the teacher) to review before your trial date. Visit http://www.criminal-lawyers.com.au/web/page/vic_preparing_documents_for_criminal_trial_or_case for suggestions on what documents to include in your case file.
- What is the crime your villain is accused of? Describe in detail the crime and the events leading up to it.
- What is your villain's motive for committing the crime he or she is accused of? Compile a profile on your villain including character traits, relationships with other characters, and why they would allegedly commit this crime.
- Who are the victims, and how were they affected by the villain's criminal actions? List any witnesses that could affect the jury's final decision, and take their statements.
